Screenshot, annotate, and pin on top — for Mac.
PinShot is a free menu-bar screenshot tool for macOS. Capture a region, window, or screen with a hotkey, mark it up, then pin it as a floating window that stays on top of everything — so the error message, mockup, or snippet you need is right there while you work.

Because half the time you capture something, you need it while you do something else — retyping an error message into a search box, checking your build against the design mockup, copying numbers into a spreadsheet. Instead of alt-tabbing back to Preview, pin the shot. It floats above every window until you close it: drag it anywhere, resize it, double-click to copy it. Turn on auto-pin and every capture floats automatically.
A screenshot tool can see everything on your screen, so PinShot is built to make that boring:
Your captures never leave your Mac. And at 0.9 MB, PinShot is smaller than most of the screenshots it takes.
Is it really free? Yes — no trial, no locked features, no subscription.
How is this different from ⇧⌘5? The built-in tool captures. PinShot lets you act on the capture: markup, redaction, GIF clips, and pinning it on top while you work.
Scrolling capture? OCR? Not yet. If those are must-haves today, Shottr is excellent. PinShot focuses on doing the pin workflow better than anyone; what ships next is driven by what users ask for.
Which Macs? Anything running macOS 14 Sonoma or later.
